Mystery 'explosions' rock a small town

A series of mysterious explosions are rocking an Australian town ‘every 15 minutes’ according to baffled residents.

The blasts have rattled homes living along ‘s Lefevre Peninsula, about 15 kilometres northwest of on Tuesday.

Residents reported distant thuds, dogs running for cover and houses shaking but they have no explanation as to what is causing the tremors.

One resident, from Largs Bay, said the explosions became more frequent during the afternoon, up to ‘every 15 minutes’, reported.

‘They seem to be getting louder and more frequent with the house rattling significantly,’ said Maurice Corcoran in a community Facebook group.

A woman from Semaphore, Leah Baguley, said the explosions were so loud she thought she was ‘losing my mind’. 

‘It’s louder at North Haven, the dogs ran for cover,’ said Denise De Peinder.

Louise Maloney posted that the brick wall of her house rumbled and moved.

According to website monitoring earthquakes there were no significant tremors in South Australia during the past 24 hours.

Geoscience Australia’s online monitoring recorded a small earthquake of magnitude 3.4 in central Victoria, at Rushworth, just after midday.

But Rushworth is over 700km from the Lefevre Peninsula.

According to Defence SA, the Port Wakefield range is used for weapons testing and  destruction of expired and unsafe ordnances

Proof Range near Port Wakefield, 80km north of the Lefevre Pensinula, is a 56 square-kilometre ADF site.

It hosts weapons trials, discuss munitions proofing and environmental testing for the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force.

‘Along with weapons testing, the site is also used for destruction of expired and unsafe ordnance,’ the site says.

Daily Mail Australia has sought the ADF for history.gov comment.
